What's In A Name?
When I hear a name, it brings to mind the whole man, what I know of him, and also the impression he has made on me. The name of a king includes his honor, power, & his kingdom. His name is the symbol of his power.
The Name of Christ is the expression of everything He has done and everything He is and lives to do as our Mediator.
Over the past 2000 years, more people on earth have known the name of Jesus than any other name. Since 33 AD, over 8 billion people, have claimed to be followers of Jesus.
It's interesting that people use it to swear, pray and to mark the calendar. BC (before Christ) It's also interesting that the freedom to speak and pray in that name is being taken away. I keep hearing that in the armed forces and other places, you can use the name of God, just not Jesus. Why is that? Satan is terrified of that name.
Jesus comes from the Hebrew name Yeshua, or Joshua, and means Yahweh is salvation. Jesus was and is our salvation. We have it only because of Christ alone.
Ever since His birthday, Jesus has been more than just a name. It’s been our comfort in life and death, and our only hope in a hopeless world.
When you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, you may have life in his name (John 20:31). There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we can be saved (Acts 4:12).
Phil. 2:11-12 "For God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father"
The name of Jesus represents all of His finished work on the cross, fulfilling God's plan of redemption and salvation, as well as victory over sin, death, and the devil's entire realm.
The power in the name is the person behind the name. The name of someone, in the sense that the Bible authors used it, was what the person stood for, their character and authority.
Jesus Christ has given Christians the right and authority to use his name. This means we have been given the power of attorney. Legally, power of attorney is the authority to act in another person's behalf, at their request. It is authorization given by one person (Jesus) permitting another (Christians) to take action on his (Jesus Christ's) behalf.
To do something in the name of another is to use His power and authority, as his representative and substitute.
It always assumes that you have a common interest. No one would give another the free use of his name without 1st being assured his honor and interests were as safe with him as with himself.
Wow! Jesus gave us power in His Name--the free use of it, with assurance that whatever we ask in His Name will be given to us. He gives us unlimited power to use His Name at all times for everything we desire. He could not do this if He didn't know that He could trust us with His interests and that His honor would be safe in our hands.
Someone who gives his name to another stands aside to let that person act for him and gives up his own as of no value.
When the Lord Jesus went to heaven, He left His work--the management of His Kingdom on earth, in the hands of His servants.
He also gave them His Name to draw all the supplies they needed for the conduct of His affairs. His servants have the spiritual power to use the Name of Jesus only insofar as they yield themselves to live only for the interests and work of the Master.
Our power in using that Name, whether with God, men, or devils, depends on our union with Christ. I have given up my own name and with it, my own independent life. It also shows I have possession of everything belonging to the name I have taken instead of my own.
You have a right to that name. If in pain or sickness comes to you, you can say, - "Pain leave my body." Satan must yield to the commands of a Saint who knows his position and God always confirms His Word with signs and wonders following that believer.
What is your problem today? Are you depressed, suicidal, stressed and overwhelmed? Are you lonely, sick, tired, confused, in pain?
I challenge you to call on Jesus.
